My dream job… Jenny Messer

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

“May I just say that I have my dream job? I try to email, call, text, or tell my director at lease once a week how I do not know what I would do if I did not get to teach music all day, 5 days a week! To get to start my day with infants in the morning and work through each stage of life and end with my older students who put all the dynamic, theory, and musical artistry into playing piano is pure bliss. Some of my favorite days are when my student starts the lesson with their own composition, what a reward for a teacher. Whenever we have a break or a holiday, I miss my kiddos and can not wait to see them and can not believe how they have grown up! Even when I am having a bad day, my husband reminds me that once I get to see my kids in class I will be happier than ever…and he is always right!”

“My son has Sensory Integration Disorder. We’ve tried many different activities…”

My son has Sensory Integration Disorder.  We’ve tried many different activities, most of which were very difficult for him. His Occupational Therapist mentioned how therapeutic music can be for sensory kids.  I have a friend whose child was making great progress at A Child’s Song in the AussieRoo and Kindermusik program.  She then told me that A Child’s Song offered private music lessons for older kids.  This was exactly what we were looking for – one on one instruction!  We have found the perfect avenue of expression where he can excel and be challenged.  My son has gained so much confidence and pride through learning a music piece and then being able to perform it.  He has even performed in front of an audience – which was quite an accomplishment!  Piano is something that he is good at and he takes pride in.  He has even begun teaching his younger cousins how to play the songs on the piano that he has learned.  Music has become part of his therapy.

“A Child’s Song…their love for kids and music is very apparent.”

A Child’s Song truly breaks the mold when it comes to music class. They excel in every area of their program. The instructors are extremely talented, and their love for kids and music is very apparent. They always know just what to do to make each child feel very special and unique in their own way. The curriculum  is always appropriate for each age, and it encourages the child to learn and grow with music, at any stage that he or she might be in.

My family has been very blessed to be involved with their program.  My two year old daughter has been in their classes since she was a newborn, and her enthusiasm with music is truly priceless for me. Above all the activities I have done with her, Kindermusik class is the one thing she asks about every single day.  She loves her instructors, and every time we get in the car she asks if we’re going to see her teacher.  As a new parent I have been continuously amazed with how quickly she memorizes the music and games, and how much she has grown and developed through the programs at A Child’s Song.  I would hands down refer A Child’s  Song to anyone, even to those not interested in music.   Their program has been a great bonding activity for my daughter and I, and I am so grateful we are apart of it!

“My little girl is now doing UP and DOWN’s on her own at home! Just like our exercises in class, she goes up up up with her arms then down down down  and then she giggles. then, she started figuring out her own ways to do ups and downs, like going on her tip toes and saying up up up!’ what a joy it is to see her bring this home and doing it all on her own”
