Director's Letter
Allow me to introduce myself - my name is Sandy Taylor, Executive Director of A Child's Song, a program providing music education and joyful learning for families. I have taught private piano for over 28 years, and Kindermusik for over 10 years. My educational background is in early childhood.
My husband and I were licensed foster parents and fostered over 30 infants in the past 25 years. We are the proud parents of 7 adopted children ranging in age from 8 to 28 years, and grandparents to 2 grandchildren. Our life purpose statement reflects our goals personally and professionally - to minister to children.
After teaching Kindermusik for five years, we incorporated A Child's Song with a staff of 1. We have ranged from a staff of 4 –12, depending on the particular year. We’re now offering Kindermusik, Kaleidoscope Keys, Impromptu Instruments, Interactive Metronome, and AussieROO, our newest program featuring neurological movement straight from Australia – programs perfect for children of all ages!!
Our biggest achievement is receiving our non-profit status! After 9 months of hard work and waiting, we were approved as a 501 (c) 3 organization in 2001. This allows us to look for additional finances through grants and fundraising opportunities so that ANY child and family can benefit from our programs. We have received grant funding from all three of the SCFD counties we applied with for programs to be offered in 2008. We have fund-raisers in place to earn money specifically for providing scholarships to families of all backgrounds and with varied needs.
We're excited about our programs because research continues to indicate that early music education, especially with parents actively involved, is highly beneficial in connecting neurons in the brain that affect vital areas of development such as reading, math, science, engineering, and sports. One vital component we focus on is parent-child bonding which is crucial to a child's emotional and physical well-being. It's a total experience for parent and child that is life changing, but learning never stops and we offer music lessons to the child in all of us – at ANY age.
We also focus on stimulating growth and development through music and movement. The most critical time for this stimulation is from birth to 3 years of age, but it is important to remember that music is important and experience shapes the brain at any age and through a lifetime. Give your child something NOW for their 40th birthday, or give yourself something now that you won’t ever regret. Come in; we’ll learn together!
When something good comes your way, don’t keep it to yourself. Feel free to share with your friends, neighbors, schools, and anyone else that comes to mind. Thanks for spreading the word! We ALL win!
Sandy L. Taylor
